What you'll do
Key Responsibilities
- Own end to end month end close for assigned clients, covering journal entries, accruals, prepaids, revenue cut off, close checklist and trial balance review.
- Build and maintain reconciliation workbooks across bank, accounts receivable, customer deposits and revenue allocation.
- Prepare monthly MIS and board reporting packs with written variance commentary.
- Prepare investor and stakeholder reporting, including portfolio statements and return calculations.
- Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts, and run budget versus actual analysis with driver based explanations.
- Manage the US sales tax compliance calendar, including locality rate rollups, return preparation and penalty and interest computation.
- Manage payment runs, vendor coordination and stakeholder follow ups for controller engagements.
- Coordinate with client teams, auditors and trustees for information, queries and closure of open items.
Essential Skills
Close and Controller Execution
Demonstrated ownership of the full month end close cycle rather than isolated data entry. Ability to run a close independently, identify what is missing and propose the entries required to complete it.
Reconciliation Capability
Ability to construct a reconciliation workbook from raw system dumps without a template being provided. Includes multi invoice deposit allocation, receivable ageing analysis and revenue allocation across a large item level dataset.
Advanced Excel
XLOOKUP and INDEX MATCH, SUMIFS, pivot tables, Power Query, partial and fuzzy matching logic, and the ability to audit and correct another person’s formulas. Model building capability for FP&A workbooks and IRR and return calculations.
US GAAP Working Knowledge
Accrual accounting, revenue recognition, deferred revenue and period cut off, applied at a practical delivery level. The majority of the client portfolio is US based.
Accounting Systems
Hands on experience with QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books. Chart of accounts design, class and location tracking, bulk import and correction, and report extraction. Xero exposure is an advantage.
Reporting Craft
Ability to produce a profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow pack together with a written narrative that can be issued to a client with minimal rework.
Preferred Skills
- Trust and not for profit accounting. Fund and grant tracking, restricted versus unrestricted balances, Section 12A and 80G requirements, donor and trustee reporting, and statutory audit coordination.
- US indirect tax. Nexus fundamentals, monthly locality rate rollups, Virginia ST-1 and North Carolina E-500 style filings, and computation of penalty and interest.
- Revenue recognition for distribution and licensing models. Wholesale net revenue, depletion allowances, trade spend and periodic license fee calculation audits.
- Budgeting and forecasting. Driver based build up rather than a prior year uplift.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of Python or comparable automation for reporting, including openpyxl and python-pptx.
- Exposure to multi currency or international entity reporting.
- Accounts payable workflow and payment run experience, including withholding tax awareness.
Behavioural Requirements
- Written English of a standard suitable for direct client correspondence.
- Confidence in following up with client stakeholders for missing information and open items.
- Ability to work from incomplete or unstructured inputs and return a structured output.
- Willingness to overlap with US working hours on a scheduled basis.
